Carolina Ballets "family" extends beyond the stage to include a large community of dedicated and generous volunteers. Each volunteer is a vital part of our continuing success. Volunteer opportunities exist throughout the year with flexible and open hours. We have many areas you can work in to help meet the Companys needs. Whether you can donate your time on a regular basis or only occasionally, we invite you to put your own interests, special skills and talents to work for the Company. Volunteering provides a wonderful introduction to the world of professional ballet. While having fun and meeting other enthusiasts, you will be ensuring the continued growth of Carolina Ballet.
Assist the staff at the Carolina Ballet studio on weekdays during business hours. All skill levels are welcome to help in any department with general office duties such as: research, database entry, filing, phone calls, photocopying, mailing, writing, editing, and archiving. You can volunteer on an occasional basis for special projects or on a weekly basis if you have more time to dedicate.
You must be at least 18 years of age to work on this committee and are subject to approval by the Costume Director. This committee works under the supervision of the Wardrobe Manager and Costume Director doing various projects when needed in wardrobe, either at the studio or backstage during performances. There is also a great need for dressers for some of our productions. Dressers work backstage during performances helping dancers do quick changes between sets. This requires a commitment to work the entire run, including dress rehearsal.
Opportunities exist for providing pre-performance "Ballet Talks" or information sessions at Parent Teacher Association (PTA) meetings. These talks may include information on the Company, the ballet about to be performed, music, costumes, and the history of the production. Questions from the audience are welcome and encouraged. Pre-performance talks generally occur one hour before the scheduled performance. You may also be asked to act as a docent for studio tours, to train new volunteers, or to assist with student performances.
Assisting with planning, coordinating, and staging special events during the season when needed. You will be welcoming new dancers and guest artists on occasion, or assisting in departments like Box Office with "will call."
You will be responsible for planning, set-up, working, and breakdown for Carolina Ballet's Boutique. Volunteers should be comfortable with handling money, working with customers, gift wrapping, and being in a fast-paced yet festive environment. The boutique will be held at some performances, primarily during Nutcracker.
